The story
Gangaur honours Gauri, the form of Parvati who won Shiva through her devotion. Unmarried girls pray for a good husband and married women for their husband's long life, through the weeks after Holi.

Women fast, sing folk songs and carry clay images of Gauri and Shiva in processions, which end with the images being immersed in a pond or river. Jaipur and Udaipur hold grand processions.
