The story
King Bali, Prahlada's grandson, grew so powerful that the gods feared for their place. Vishnu came as Vamana, a dwarf Brahmin, and asked Bali for three paces of land. He measured the sky with one and the earth with another, and Bali offered his own head for the third, and was made ruler of the netherworld.
