The story
Lohri marks the turn from the long winter nights and the harvest of sugarcane and wheat. On the evening before Makar Sankranti, families gather around a bonfire to thank Agni and the Sun, and sing of Dulla Bhatti, the folk hero of Punjab.

A bonfire is lit at dusk. People walk around it, offer sesame, jaggery, popcorn and peanuts, and share them as prasad. Newly married couples and newborns are honoured. The food is sarson da saag, makki di roti and gajak.
